| (5/5) | | Canadian post-hardcore outfit Alexisonfire are set to release there new disc Old Crows/ Young Cardinals in one short week. After rumors spread that Alexisonfire was near its end, fans were happily greeted with the news that the rumors of the band breaking up were a simple joke that got taken out of hand. Now Alexisonfire is back, with much less of the atmospheric vibe that crisis gave off and much more of an in your face growl. The CD opens with one half the title “Old Crows” and the song immediately following it is Young Cardinals. “Old Crows” is an anthem for an ever changing generation of people; “We are not the kids we use to be.” They certainly have changed and developed into a more mature sounding band. Songs like “Young Cardinals” show the progress of the band as musicians when it comes to writing songs. The highpoint of the album for me is the stomach turning song “The Northern” which shows both the atmospheric vibe the band can produce along with the intense vocal range of its singers. The closing song on the CD “Burial” is a soft song that will leave you wondering how they can change their style so easily and leave you praying for spring. Song length on this CD is about four minutes, which isn’t a bad thing at all. The more music the better, right? This CD is packed full of snarls, growls, pounding drums and heavily distorted guitar. Not to confuse them with other post – hardcore bands, most of which should be hoping to diversify themselves like Alexisonfire.
